Background of the Study
Accounting information plays a vital role in decision-making and resource management within healthcare institutions. In Nigeria, private clinics are a significant component of the healthcare system, complementing public health facilities in providing medical services. Accurate and timely accounting information is essential for these clinics to allocate resources efficiently, manage costs, and improve service delivery (Okoro & Musa, 2023).
The healthcare sector in Abuja has witnessed rapid growth, with private clinics catering to a diverse population. However, many of these clinics face challenges in financial management due to inadequate accounting systems and practices. The integration of robust accounting information systems can enhance decision-making, improve financial accountability, and ultimately contribute to better healthcare outcomes (Adebayo, 2024).
This study examines the role of accounting information in improving healthcare delivery in private clinics in Abuja, exploring its impact on resource utilization, service quality, and patient satisfaction.
Statement of the Problem
Despite the importance of accounting information in managing healthcare facilities, many private clinics in Abuja lack the systems and expertise required for effective financial management. This has led to resource wastage, inefficient cost management, and compromised service quality. While existing research highlights the relevance of accounting information in general, its specific application in improving healthcare delivery in private clinics remains underexplored (Obi, 2025).
This study addresses this gap by investigating the role of accounting information in enhancing operational efficiency and healthcare outcomes in Abuja’s private clinics.
Objectives of the Study
1. To examine the accounting practices employed in private clinics in Abuja.
2. To analyze the role of accounting information in improving healthcare delivery.
3. To recommend strategies for enhancing the use of accounting information in private healthcare management.
Research Questions
1. What accounting practices are employed in private clinics in Abuja?
2. How does accounting information contribute to healthcare delivery improvements?
3. What strategies can enhance the use of accounting information in private clinics?
Research Hypotheses
1. Accounting information significantly influences healthcare delivery in private clinics.
